interdisciplinary artist

FRANCESCA SANTODOMINGO
actor / singer-songwriter / writer / producer

ARTIST STATEMENT
Francesca is a daughter of the Colombian Caribbean, a multi-disciplinary artist in search of narratives that explore the nuance, ambivalence and multiplicity of the human experience.
Her art strives to explore the memory and experience of womanhood in Latin America, violence & power, the survival of armed conflict, and the transmogrification effects of migration/immigration.
Her creative practices: acting, songwriting, spoken word poetry, and theatre-making focus on validating, celebrating, and commemorating the strength, joy, and voices of Latin American and/or Global South societies beyond their suffering and struggle.
Francesca’s mission is to magnify the full essence of humans whose stories have been discarded and neglected and to nurture empathy across audiences, inspire, and ask questions without answers. She believes that the job of the artist is to provide avenues of reflection that deepen the mysticism of life.
Francesca is endlessly inspired by the endurance and resilience of the women who came before her and the legacies inherited from them. Her body of work stems from Andean folklore, Colombian Caribbean indigenous storytelling, magical realism, her Italian immigrant heritage, and the multiplicity of cultures she has transited and inhabited.
Her creative path has been defined by her passion for telling the unspoken truths of history, decolonizing and deconstruct Latinidad, and the stories of the invisible warriors and hidden figures of revolutions, especially women.
She envisions her future artistic practice to be a trailblazing source of innovation in acting practices, genres, rhythms, and language in theatre, a vessel for socially conscious storytelling, and a constantly evolving intersection of creative mediums that contribute to expanding the ways performing arts are created and shared.
